Anxiety (2016)

‘Anxiety’ is a series of works that portray poisonous deadly mushrooms as analogical symbolization of anxiety, for its behaviour is similar to the ecological characteristics of the parasitic fungi.

The content of these paintings focuses on the mismanagement of anxiety due to the unaccommodating social stigma in Asian cultures, which often lead to indifference towards mental health issues, self-denial among those suffering, and under-treatment of this psychological problem, among many.

In this context, the interior settings of the image represents psychological containment when in denial, which neglects the growing irrational fear that further feeds the anxiety, thus becomes overwhelming and creates the urgency to escape.
